Abstract
El río Magdalena ha sido históricamente una arteria fundamental para la integración territorial y el desarrollo económico en Colombia. No obstante, su potencial como eje logístico sigue desaprovechado, en gran medida por las limitaciones en infraestructura fluvial que obstaculizan su capacidad para competir con otros modos de transporte. Esta investigación tiene como objetivo evaluar el impacto que ejerce la infraestructura fluvial del río Magdalena sobre la competitividad del corredor logístico que recorre su cuenca. A partir de una revisión de literatura académica y datos oficiales, se analizan los elementos que configuran la infraestructura actual puertos, canales, sistemas de dragado, entre otros y su influencia en variables como el costo, el tiempo y la eficiencia del transporte de carga. Se parte del supuesto de que una infraestructura adecuada no solo mejora el desempeño logístico del corredor, sino que también impulsa la competitividad regional al facilitar el comercio, reducir los cuellos de botella y ampliar las oportunidades de integración económica. La metodología combina enfoques cuantitativos y cualitativos para identificar relaciones causales y percepciones del sector. Con esta investigación se busca aportar evidencia útil para la formulación de políticas públicas orientadas al fortalecimiento del transporte fluvial, así como enriquecer la discusión académica sobre el papel de la infraestructura en el desarrollo económico regional.
Abstract
The Magdalena River has historically been a vital artery for territorial integration and economic development in Colombia. However, its potential as a logistical axis remains underutilized, largely due to limitations in river infrastructure that hinder its ability to compete with other modes of transportation. This research aims to evaluate the impact of the Magdalena River's river infrastructure on the competitiveness of the logistics corridor that runs through its basin.
Based on a review of academic literature and official data, the study analyzes the components that make up the current infrastructure—ports, channels, dredging systems, among others—and their influence on variables such as cost, time, and freight transport efficiency. The underlying assumption is that adequate infrastructure not only improves the logistical performance of the corridor but also boosts regional competitiveness by facilitating trade, reducing bottlenecks, and expanding opportunities for economic integration.
The methodology combines quantitative and qualitative approaches to identify causal relationships and perceptions within the sector. This research seeks to provide useful evidence for the formulation of public policies aimed at strengthening river transport, as well as to enrich the academic discussion on the role of infrastructure in regional economic development.
